Money was left for the crew of national workers to complete one more week of work mainly on the designated houses for the lepers and possibly on House 8, both of which are outside of the hospital compound but owned by the hospital.

African S.M.I.L.E. also has great interest in extending a helping hand to Nkungi Village and the Singida area. Therefore, we have also helped with various needs that would benefit many people in the surrounding communities of Iambi Hospital. This extended help is as follows:

  1. Work has been done to help complete a teacher’s house at Nkungi Primary School. This includes a water line into the courtyard of the Primary School, a water line to the teacher’s house, a 1,000 liter water tank for both the teachers house and primary school, and the building of a septic tank, indoor toilet and kitchen sink for the teacher’s house. Total cost $800

  2. For the Gunda Secondary School we helped to complete one teacher’s house with pluming and furniture. We also purchased text books for the students. Total cost $3,000

  3. Much needed repair work was done on the windmill which supplies water to the hospital and Nkungi Primary School. We replaced worn pipes, gaskets and repaired leaks on the mile and a half long pipeline. Total cost $1,5000

  4. Money has been left with Iambi Hospital to help pay for the medical care of destitute lepers in Nkungi Village as needed. A house dedicated by Iambi Hospital will be repaired for lepers in need of shelter. In partnership with Outreach Africa free food will be distributed on a weekly basis to designated lepers. Total cost $300
  5. Money was given to Sayuni Congregation Mwanga Parish to help them complete their church building with a cement floor, windows and doors. Total cost $1,400

Of the $77,000 given to all the above projects and needs of the communities $70,000 was used to complete the projects at Iambi Hospital and $7,000 was used to help with the needs in the larger communities around Iambi Hospital.

It has been a great joy and blessing for African S.M.I.L.E. to be able to complete the above projects. Thanks be to our gracious Lord for making all this possible. We thank Bishop Sima and his staff for their cooperation and help. We thank Dr. Ngowi and his staff for their over all direction and appreciation for the work completed at Iambi Lutheran Hospital. We are also very grateful for the skills and hard work done by those hired nationals who made the projects become a reality. And we express our gratitude to those who were generous donors for these projects.
